Artistic and Scientific Approaches

In the design process, it is necessary to sharpen the focus again and again, to take on different perspectives and to work iteratively. Both artistic and scientific approaches play a role here. Using her own biography, Beatrice Barrois sheds light on the intertwining of artistic and scientific perspectives in order to illustrate the benefits of an exploratory attitude. In addition to a review of her artistic work and her dissertation project, she provides insights into her research interests:

How and in which contexts is knowledge generated? What does it depend on? Which dimensions of research are particularly relevant in design-artistic processes? And what role does knowledge play in design in the face of serious social transformation processes? A critical look at the concept of knowledge and the sustainability discourse is intended to provide food for thought. This will be illustrated by some selected art and design projects.
