Phenomena such as AI slop, enshittification, erosion of trust, and fake news are rapidly on the rise and are influencing society and its use of the digital space. By 2025, skepticism is growing: Does the development of the Internet continue to have a positive impact on society?
The internet has grown to become a highly significant part of society. In light of the “Dead Internet Theory” that emerged in 2021—which must now be reexamined from new perspectives—there are new threats to the digital space that need to be investigated.
Therefore, I would like to explore how current digital developments are influencing the perception and use of the Internet and what consequences this has for user engagement and social coexistence.
To this end, I will examine the effects of current Internet trends on society. Additionally, I would like to attempt to explain these trends in a creative, simple way that is accessible to the general public and to develop solutions.
