Sense of Home

Bild Sense of Home

This work explores the elusive feeling of homesickness. Its aim is to introduce people to the concept of homesickness and encourage them to pause for a moment and reflect on their own perceptions of home and homesickness. Homesickness is divided into six categories here. Five of these deal with the perception of homesickness, while the sixth examines the location of home. These six categories (olfactory, gustatory, acoustic, visual, haptic, and spatial) are intended to offer approaches to understanding homesickness.

An exhibition object represents these categories, which, in combination with accompanying booklets assigned to the categories, provide information about memories, sensory impressions, and homesickness and encourage reflection through thought-provoking questions. It combines the abstract nature of homesickness with an attempt to decipher the feeling of home (sickness) into its various components. The object reflects the abstract nature and closeness to nature through amorphous forms and the rough structure of papier-mâché.
The project invites visitors to discover, listen to their inner voices, and create and design their own places of security with a view to the future.
